as I held the New Moon

as I held the new moon,
close to my heart-
embracing night,
its glow entered the space-
between my longing and resisting.
it saw my steadiness,
even when I feel like I am falling-
it warmed my soul,
even when I feel wounded-
it captured my intentions,
and sang them back to me-
from the night sky.
it held my promise,
as I held its fullness-
inside of me,
what is given or taken away-
does not claim the essence of me,
in gratefulness-
I am brought back to me,
in the summer’s new moon,
it rises and rests with me.
